On April 29th 2018, Naturalist Patti Smith and ECO AmeriCorps Service Member Billy Ernest gathered community members at Marlboro College for a discussion about beaver meadows, their importance for the ecological health of a watershed, their carbon sequestration capabilities, and the volume of stormwater they absorb to help with flood resilience.

The group then went into the field to observe one of these valuable ecosystems in action! We had a picnic alongside beaver meadows at the headwaters of the Green River Watershed along Harrisville Brook, and met Willow the ancient one-eyed beaver. She swam right up to Patti to ask for some apples!
